Food + Mood NYC: You have been immersed in the wellness world for many years bringing your knowledge and curiosity to people. Can you tell us what inspired you and what you have done thus far?

Amber Berger: I love to share. I am simply that person, that friend who always tells you the truth, no filter. I have been living a holistic lifestyle for 25+ years since healing myself from Crohn’s Disease at 14. I did it through the power of food and have experienced firsthand the incredible healing ability of the body. I have been prioritizing holistic self-care practices long before “wellness” became a buzzword. My endless curiosity for body optimization has led me to discover many incredible things from herbs to treatments which has helped to keep my body feeling strong and full of energy while navigating the everyday stresses of life. With all that energy I like to do many things – I am an entrepreneur at heart so I wear many hats. When I am inspired I like to share my knowledge with the ultimate goal to help people.

My main passion is family wellness which is wellness catering to the entire family. Wellness should not be a singular experience, rather it should be for all ages and that was my inspiration behind founding a social wellness studio called Salthaus. It was an accessible wellness experience for all ages where families could engage in wellness together through salt therapy. We decided not to re-open after COVID once people’s habits shifted, mine included. Everything shifted to inside the home so I am now sharing through a new medium which led me to launch a wellness podcast called The Well Drop

I have done so much work for myself and for my family, it is my mission through The Well Drop to share information on what truly works and how to add wellness to your lifestyle efficiently. Nothing amazing in life just happens, it takes work. However, the effort is extremely worth it in the end. There is nothing better than feeling empowered to own your wellness.

F+M NYC: The Well Drop educates and motivates listeners to take ownership of their health and wellness. What type of experts are you bringing to your podcast and what are some of the topics you are addressing?

AB: Given my years of experience I have truly become an expert at finding the experts. I am an avid researcher, loving to learn from the best in their field, and am a big proponent of efficiency. The Well Drop’s goal is to share actional wellness tips geared towards Women 35-55. We focus on topics that we face every day from how to create a healthy home to perimenopause to how to manage the stress of back to school and busy schedules yet somehow carve out a moment for yourself every day. We all know what we “should” be doing but we give you the tools on how to actually get it done and add wellness into your daily life.

F+M NYC: What specific areas are people keen to learn more about in the health and wellness space?

AB: Aging well with your skincare is a big topic. First, it begins with what you eat. I am a minimalist with my personal skincare routine so I like to find products that truly work and you can notice a difference. I have discovered brands through my search to biohack my skincare routine.

Connecting to your cycle, especially during Perimenopause is another huge topic we will be covering from how to fast for your cycle to seed cycling to working out for your cycle and more.

F+M NYC: What are your top 3 tips to help people on their journey to feeling their best?

AB: First is to set a goal or an intention that enables you to take a moment for YOU each day

-the goal can be anything. I suggest starting small and it can literally only be 5 minutes.

-the easiest biohack is through breathwork which can be done anytime anywhere

(you can do it in the shower, when getting dressed, while drinking your coffee, before bed)

-this is a helpful tool to bring you to the present

Second is to create time in your calendar in order for you to achieve that goal

-I like to put reminders in my calendar at a specific time of day and have it repeat every day so that when I look at my calendar I have a daily reminder to carve out that time.

Third: Take a moment in nature

-no matter where you live, take a moment in nature to breathe in fresh air. We spend so much time indoors which actually has the potential to be more polluted than outdoor air.

-take this time to connect to the present. In our fast-paced lives filled with so many distractions, it is becoming more critical to stop and take a moment to be present. With this practice, you will be more likely to feel joy and feel content in your everyday life.

F+M NYC: What are your favorite ways to take care of yourself on and off the plate?

AB: I like to think about things that you do every single day and then how to optimize each one of them to choose the best ingredients, products and brands accordingly. Food is where it all begins for me. I am greatly blessed with the ability to keep an all-organic home for my food. If you are just starting I suggest looking up the EWG for the dirty dozen and at least start there.

A lot of our food sources are compromised so I have become very particular about my food sources. I prioritize vegetables from the local farmers markets and order my fish, chicken and meat online directly from farmers who share my values of how the land and animals should be treated and nourished. It makes my weekly food shopping simpler as I feel more in charge of what comes into our home vs. solely relying on grocery store choices. Regenerative farming, grass-fed, pasture-raised, organic, and wild for fish are all buzzwords to look out for when choosing your food sources.

I am a huge fan of Infrared Sauna – it is my guilty but not-so-guilty pleasure. I purchased one for my home and it is something the entire family uses on a weekly basis. It is great for recovery, boosting immunity, healing from injuries, anti-aging, de-stressing, detoxing and more. I call it my mommy cave as I go in there to take a moment for myself a few times a week.
